Urdu Poetry/Shayari

Maayusi ke aalam mei bhi maayus hum nahi
Sannatei ki aahaton mei bhi khaamoshi ka gum nahi
Sukun-e-mohabbat na hokar bhi dard-e-sukun sitam nahi
Mehkashaa deedar hokar bhi khumaar-e-intezaar kum nahi

Random Thought

Bejubaan jo hai lamhaa
Khaamosh kyun hum hai
Nashe mei sarabor hai jo duniya
par madhosh kyun hum hai
Gumnaam aagosh mei zindgaani
maayne humare kyun gum hai
Dasht-e-waqt ki mazaaro mei
ye aashiyaane kyun num hai
Bewafa chaahat gar hai zarzar
harf-e-ilzam ki sadaaon mei
ruh humari dafn kyu hardum hai

Government Job = No Work For Life..!!

'Government officials have no intention to work in life ever', a truth not hidden from any Indian over here. They think that they bestow a favor upon us by doing the work, they were once hired and are still paid for. As if they do a favor to all the citizens of India by sitting on the chair for hours less than the actual office hours, whether it's a bank, post-office, water board, electricity or telephone department etc..They know all the tricks in the world to kill time while they are in office. It may be killing time in sipping a cup of tea, with each sip lasting for a minute or so, telephonic conversations- which could span across several minutes to hours..depending on how unlucky you are..

And I came across a similar situation, once again, today. Yep, I had to go and get some work done in the nearby post-office. This one has quiet a good amount of space compared to the typical size of a post office in India. There are two counters, made by an unmarked division of the same table. One for the post or courier related stuff while the other one for savings & deposits related things. While the other man, dealing with courier, parcel and other things, was atleast a little interested in doing his job. While this another guy, quite old one, the in-charge for saving & deposit related things, is pretty lazy, dis-interested in work and hence very very indifferent to people. This guy takes more than 20 minutes just to get an entry done in savings account passbook. Now it's not that hard to imagine the amount of time it would have taken for my chance to come if I was on the 6th number in the queue. He made 2 of these people, standing before me in the queue, go back and get few more documents within the blink of an eye. And he does this intentionally. I think he gets some kind of happiness in troubling people.

No, no, no..I am not a saddist. I saw him doing it to a hell lot of people before coming to a conclusion. Not only this time but also during my last two visits. I went there since he had asked me to come after a week & collect the NSC. So, I was there, exactly after a week. After waiting for an hour and half in the queue, there came my chance to talk to him. Imagine what he tells me after making me wait for another 15 minutes for no reason..'Oh no no, we are running out of NSC certificates, so come next week and collect it'. I was quiet irritated and said 'You only asked me to come after a week and now you are asking me to come again next week'. He could sense my anger I think. So he said 'Have you put your phone number in the form?' ..I said 'Yes' with brows raised..He said 'Ok then, I will give you a call when it is ready and you may come and collect anytime after that'. I found it worthless to argue with him anymore and simply came back..What else could I have done..He was not going to give it to me today... anyway...

Indian Education System

Somebody questioned about the trends in Education System in various countries today on Quora. While reading about various points mentioned by other people over there and doing a comparative analysis, I could see there are two major drawbacks which the education system we have in India puts forth:

Reservation: As we have reservation of seats for various sections of the society in all Universities/Institutes in India, it many a times(in fact most of the times) also lead to some reserved unoccupied seats in the top/elite colleges of the country.

Performance Metric: Since we have Board examinations at Secondary/Senior Secondary level and Entrance examinations after Senior Secondary or High School. This in turn decides which stream(Science, Commerce, Arts) or degree major( Like Computers/ Information Technology/Mechanical... for Engineering or B.Com./B.B.A. etc. in case of Commerce and so on..) you may get admitted to. So your overall intelligence and fate is decided based on how you performed on that one particular day, the day of examination.

In general, even the weightage for various topics in each Subject is already decided by the Board/University or the Council conducting the exams, which creates this mindset of paying more attention to those topics which would fetch you more marks to get into the most sought after streams and degree majors in the best Colleges/Universites, even when the student would have no clue if that really meets his/her interest.

How could anyone else decide upon what should have more weightage and what is more important for me to understand and learn by setting up some random curriculum? Each individual is different with different set of qualities and capabilities, so instead of restricting it to a defined set of topics or courses..or whatever..let the person explore, give him/her the freedom to choose..If one selects a subject/curriculum which fits his/her interest aptly, that person can do wonders even in a not so hot/sought after dimension or career option..!!

Compliment Smells Fishy..!!

I find a lot of people longing to hear good words about themselves, just a few words or lines in their admiration makes them do almost anything for you. I belong to the second set of people. Our class of people are different as in we suspect each and every compliment made to you as a trap thrown just to get you caught. I know this may not be the right attitude towards people who are genuinely praising you. But then, this is how the world is now-a-days. Every word of admiration gives me a feeling of suspicion about the intention of the person who just spoke it.

In today's mean world, where most people don't even waste a minute in talking to somebody without any reason or self gain, why would somebody spend a minute or two just to come to you and say nice things?

However, as they say, A Compliment a Day, Keeps the Blues Away..Certainly a compliment makes you feel a little good about yourself. But continuously re-analyzing yourself to keep up with those honey coated words is a real challenge. September had been a great month to me in that regard. Lots of people have been throwing away lots of nice & sweet words to flatter me..Thank you guys, I would try to take all of them positively..

Papa kehte hain bada naam karega
Unka TinTin to aisa kaam karega
Hey Hey Hey Hey..papa ka naam dubata hai
Hey Hey Hey Hey..har waqt apni udwata hai

Mobile Summit-2012

Recently I attended a 2 Day Mobile Summit which was held in J.N.Tata Auditorium, Bangalore. I had a lot of expectations from it as this was the first time for me to attend an event of this sort. Big brands, Big People, Authors were supposed to tell about the Hot or Killer Mobile Devices & Applications and what could be the face of next generation of Mobile Devices & Apps.  Speakers from so many different brands were competing for marketing their mobile products & applications or hardware which may bring in the next revolution: like Intel, Blackberry, Nokia, Samsung, IBM, Facebook and so on..But still, it ended being more of a marketing event than being a technical expo, where people could have demonstrated Next Gen, about to hit Mobile Devices & Applications.

Anyways, most of the speakers threw away some fundas to the start-ups, free-lance developers..etc about how to think big, new & different to make the product international from Day-1. There are no prescribed steps and none of the points put forth are quantitatively measurable. However, for me there were three key take-aways:

  • A few speakers talked about how necessary it is to understand the basic human behavior & to have an emotional connect with the users to keep them engaged. Understanding neuroscience-especially psychology is one of key factors behind making an app or product successful.
  • A product/app in general should solve a problem, especially those which is faced by many. That should be the main idea but some of the fancy apps/products out there don't do much but are still kind of famous.
  • We do judge book by its cover.  Rich UX is very important. Something which is a perfect blend of being Simple, Intuitive, Effective & Appealing. As they say, first impression, most of the times, is the last impression. Something, which I also believe in, personally.

Overall it was quite decent experience of knowing other people's perception, views, ideas and thoughts about the direction Mobile Industry is heading on.
